Vamizi Island lies in the remote Quirimbas Archipelago, a chain of 32 stunning and secluded coral islands that stretches for more than 200 kilometres along the northern coast of Mozambique, flowing from Pemba to the Rovuma River,
the natural border between Tanzania and Mozambique.
Described as ‘a desert-island dreamscape on the most beautiful beach in the Indian Ocean’ and ‘a pearl in a thousand miles of crushed shell’; its waters provide ‘without a doubt... one of the best dives in the world’.
Diving: Vamizi Island is surrounded by spectacular reefs which provide a rich and fertile habitat for an enormous range of marine life. The jewel in Vamizi’s crown is that it boasts one of the last unbleached coral reefs found on the East African coast and has been voted one of the top ten dive sites in the world. Whether you are a novice or an experienced diver, there are many dive sites around Vamizi that offer a range of exciting opportunities for all abilities.
Snorkelling: Vamizi boasts extensive snorkelling sites located around the island, all of which have a spectacular array of fish and coral species. Diving and snorkelling equipment is available at Vamizi Island.
Game Fishing: Vamizi Island is surrounded by deep water and healthy corals which provide a bountiful habitat for a multitude of fish species. The smaller reef fish provide an ample food source for the larger game fish and, as a result, the waters surrounding Vamizi Island offer some of the best deep-sea fishing in the world, year round. The more common species of fish found at Vamizi are wahoo, tuna, giant trevally, king mackerel, and barracuda.
Whale watching: From July to October, humpback whales are common in the Vamizi waters, travelling north from the Southern Ocean to breed. Boat trips can be arranged on request.
Forest trails and beach walks: You can follow a myriad of trails through the forest, exploring the island and discovering its unique flora and fauna with our resident naturalist guide or simply by yourself.
Beauty therapy: Health and wellness professionals are on hand to help you relax and unwind with a range of massage and spa treatments within the comfort of your own villa.
Yoga: Enjoy a range of different yoga techniques in either private or group classes.
